May News - Hamden

May 07, 2015
  • Finally, warmer weather and the month of May are here!!

May 4-8 is Teacher Appreciation day!  Please join me in thanking and showing appreciation for your child’s teacher. I will be providing our teachers with lunch on Friday.  I would love to also surprise our teachers with breakfast throughout the week.  If any family is interested in donating any type of breakfast food let me know.

If you are interested in signing your child up for our fun filled summer camp, please registrar ASAP.  This helps us to finalize all planning. Also vacations that will be taken, so I can finalize the days for all major events.

The warmer weather is finally here and we will be spending time outside.  If you would like us to apply sunscreen to your child, a form needs to be filled out and brought in with your sunscreen.  Please label all sunscreen bottles.  Please apply sunscreen in morning and your child’s teacher will reapply in the afternoon.

Lastly, I would like to announce our New Referral Program: At Over the Rainbow Learning Center we love and appreciate each and every one of our families.  We are honored you choose to recommend our Center to your family and friends day after day.  As a way to say “thank you” we are offering a referral program to reward our existing students and families. For every new family referral, who registrars in our Learning Center and is enrolled for 30 days, you will receive a one week’s credit applied to your account.  Please retrieve forms in office.

  • Toddler 1 Room

  • Hello from the toddler room.  April was such an amazing month. We learned about recycling and celebrated Earth Day by planting some seeds in recycled plastic water bottles. We also read many Eric Carle books this month and completed an art project for each book. This coming month we will be celebrating Mother’s Day with a very special project we have been working on all month long. We will also be making some beautiful spring art projects and begin reading Chicka Chicka Boom Boom. As the coming months get warmer please make sure your child’s clothing bin has seasonal appropriate clothing. Please bring in sunscreen and be sure to fill out the appropriate paperwork.

  • Preschool 1 Room

  • Hello from Preschool 1!   Happy Showers bring May flowers!  We welcome May with open arms.  We love getting outside for longer periods of time now that it’s getting warmer.  However, it still can be chilly so please dress your child appropriately or send in a sweatshirt for their bins.  The sandbox, bubbles, and Duck, Duck, Goose have been huge hits!  We are continuing to make great progress with our handwriting writing.  Our names daily has been a big help and our letter of the week worksheets keep getting better.  I am so proud of everyone’s success! (So are your children!)  I love witnessing their growth.  Speaking of growth, this month we will germinate snap pea

S watching them sprout roots in bags with paper towels and planting them in our own personalized painted pots, waiting for them to flower and form pea pods to eat. Yum!! Have a great month!

  • Preschool 2 Room

  • Happy May!  April flew by, but not without a ton of fun.  We started the month with our Easter crafts and a visit from the Easter bunny.  In the middle of the month we learned about different types of weather and made art to go with them including a rainbow and a rain cloud.  At the end of April we read a book about earth day and made bird feeders.  We continue to work on writing our names and letters.  We ended the month and will continue into May with our unit on author Eric Carle.  Happy spring!

  • Pre-K Room

  • Greetings from the Pre-K Room.  April was exciting month.  We learned about spring, Easter, recycling and earth day.  We learned that everyone has to take part in keeping the earth happy for us and are animal brothers and sisters.  We started practicing for graduation, which is Friday, June 19, 2015 at 3:00pm.  We continue to work on remembering our address, birthday, and our phone number.  Please continue to help your child at home.  Along with the alphabet, their sounds, recognizing number zero thru twenty and counting to 50.  As for May, we will be learning about plants, flowers, butterflies, insects, mother’s day and Memorial Day.  We will be reviewing the alphabet but not in alphabetic order.  Picture day is May 19th in our cap and gown.

                                                                                        Miss Valerie
